NEC suffered a 2-3 defeat against Feyenoord in the last home game of the regular season. Rogier Meijer’s men went down fighting after Bram Nuytinck’s red card immediately after the break. The trainer and goalscorer Sontje Hansen looked back on the match in front of the NEC TV camera.
“I saw a team at work today that did everything they could,” says a proud Meijer afterwards. “Even though we didn’t win, I am satisfied with the game we played. A draw wouldn’t have gotten us anything today. We wanted to win to stay in contention for fifth place. Fortunately, we are playing the first final of the play-offs in the Goffert Stadium, the atmosphere was great again today!”
Hansen put his team past ten minutes before the end with a great goal. The goalscorer says: “Youri shouted for me to go in and then I shot the ball just past the goalkeeper. Is this my best goal of the season? I still have to look back at the goal, but Vitesse’s was also very nice.”
“After the equalizer, we did everything we could to win. Unfortunately it didn’t work out. We gave everything. Fifth place would have been feasible this season. Now we are going to prepare for the play-offs,” concludes Hansen combatively.
