Taiwan teams take top prizes at Robofest World Championships | Taiwan News

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Several teams from Taiwan took home trophies at a robotics competition hero in Michigan, including two first-place finishes in senior divisions that earned four-year scholarships.

Twelve teams from Taiwan took part in Lawrence Technological University’s (LTU) 25th annual Robofest World Championships in Detroit, Michigan, which concluded on Saturday (May 11), reported the Taiwan representative office in Chicago. The Taiwan delegation of about 50 elementary to high school students participated in the three-day competition alongside 500 participants from 16 countries.

The Taiwanese delegation clinched the championship in two senior divisions, securing four first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, one third-place finish, and one sixth-place finish.

In addition to trophies and medals, the first place winners of senior divisions received US$80,000 (US$2,400) in LTU scholarships for four years, second-place finishers got US$64,000, and third-place participants took home US$56,000.

The Taiwanese team Just Right from Kaohsiung’s Cheng Yi Senior High School took first place in the Senior Game Division. SmartHome Hub from National Pingtung Senior High School captured first place in the Senior Exhibition Division.

Another notable victory included a first-place finish in the Junior Game Division by Dreamer from Taiwan’s Creative Robotics Center.
