The Netherlands turned orange on King’s Day, but this did have consequences for the viewing figures on primetime. Even proven formats struggled to retain viewers.
To start with the king: Willem-Alexander celebrated his birthday in Emmen and no fewer than 2.2 million eyes and ears were there, given the good TV registration figures.
Orange semi-top
The orange-related programs on primetime had more difficulty appealing to viewers. For example, the King’s Day concert scored a mediocre 333,000 viewers, compared to 819,000 last year. Popquiz orange appeared on NPO 1 with, among others, Andries Tunru and Kees van Amstel (photo right) no further than 746,000 viewers. Just see you here suffered from that modest lead-in and got stuck at just under 1.5 million viewers.
RTL and the queens
RTL 4 stuck firmly to queens on King’s Day and with success. The semi-final of Make up your mind is the winner of the day with a generous 1 million viewers. Then Robert ten Brink knew Friends lottery millionaires with 600,000 viewers, the channel average can be saved quite well.
SBS 6 dangles at the bottom
There was little sign of orange or joy on SBS 6. The channel did not even come close to half a million viewers all evening despite pricey programs such as Marble mania that stuck at 489,000 viewers. Then it took care of The quiz with balls The channel made a big splash: the game show managed to captivate 457,000 people.
