The Dutch inland vessel La Primavera rammed a lock gate near Iffezheim, Germany. The damage is so extensive that the door will probably have to be replaced in its entirety.

According to German media, the accident happened on Saturday afternoon on the Rhine when the skipper from Zwijndrecht was on his way from Basel to Karlsruhe. The police are still investigating how that could happen. The damage to the door is so extensive that it will probably have to be replaced in its entirety. The police are taking into account a damage amount of one and a half million euros. The ship itself had virtually no damage.

It is not clear how long the repair will take. Until then, only one of the two locks is available for shipping.

After questions from the AD, the Zwijndrecht skipper indicated that he did not wish to comment on the accident. The shipyard where the ship was built, in Sliedrecht, also did not want to say anything about the situation its customer found itself in, ‘due to privacy legislation’.
