According to one of the founders of military theory, Carl von Clausewitz, a war is won by it Schwerpunkt to neutralize the enemy. That is what the loss of will make the enemy want to end the war.

So there is no point in ‘just’ waging war. A country goes to war for a political objective. That could be anything: a larger territory, it rally round the flageffect, eliminating the threat of a potential enemy, obtaining certain raw materials, etc.

An essential question for Israel is what it is Schwerpunkt from Hamas. That’s not the West Bank, Gaza or East Jerusalem. The loss of that will be the will to fight of Hamas. In fact, it will be the will to fight just enlarge.

As the past few months have shown, it is not the lives of Palestinian civilians either. Countless innocent men, women and children have now lost their lives. Countless others have had everything taken from them. But instead of this it Schwerpunkt of Hamas, it strengthens the breeding ground for Hamas.

It Schwerpunkt of Hamas is also not defined by material possessions or prosperity. Even though Hamas leaders are safe and prosperous abroad while their citizens and fighters die, it is anyone’s guess what effect removing that prosperity and security would have on Hamas leaders. This will not diminish their fighting skills.

What is that? Schwerpunkt from Hamas? What makes people willing to sacrifice their lives? Ironically, that is Israel’s oppression. The reason this is ironic is because Israel is in control. If Israel were to stop taking away the Palestinians’ most basic needs (land, security and the ability to support a family), the will to fight of Hamas disappear. When people have their basic needs met, they are no longer willing to sacrifice their lives. It is not without reason that the term ‘human existence’ is used. If someone does not experience their life as worthy of human beings, it is not a sacrifice to give that life. If, on the other hand, someone does experience his life as worthy of humanity, then the sacrifice to give it is enormously greater.

That brings us to the question of what the political objective is is of Israel. If that were destroying Hamas, Israel would behave diametrically differently than it does. But given the practice, given the deeply felt desire for a Jewish state, given the recent statements of its current government representatives and given its (extreme) right-wing signature, the objective of Israel’s regime seems to be aimed at Eretz Yisrael: A Jewish Israel, established on the territory promised by God to the Jews. In concrete terms, this means: the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.

The genocide of the Palestinian people is therefore not only considered plausible by the International Court of Justice, not only shown by current events, but also supported by military theory in the sense that Israel’s actions have nothing to do with destroying Hamas.
