After the fatal accident involving a Flixbus near Leipzig, in which four people were killed, the bus company does not turn a blind eye but blames the passengers who died in the accident. “If those people had worn their seat belts, everyone would still be alive,” the head of the German carrier said. The Telegraaf reports this.

Last week the bus left the road, shortly before an exit, and drove into a bush. The bus ended up on its side. According to Pavel Steiner (54), the boss of the bus company Umbrella Mobility, which operated the Berlin-Zürich line on behalf of Flixbus, it is impossible that his driver fell asleep and he would not have made any phone calls along the way.

In addition to four deaths, 35 people were also injured. It is still unclear exactly how the accident could have happened. That does not stop Steiner from pointing out the guilty parties and his own company is not one of them.

However, it has become clear that Umbrella Mobility is not without controversy. In October last year, a company bus driver was pulled over with a blood alcohol content of 2.4 per mille. A former employee called the company’s fleet in the Hamburger Morgenpost “an absolute disaster.” “Some buses drive around without a route number, others only have a cardboard sign on the front instead of a display and some even drive without lights at night.”

The police and the public prosecutor’s office in Germany have now launched an investigation into which the driver is suspected of manslaughter due to negligence and bodily injury due to negligence. If found guilty, he faces up to five years in prison.
