Dead (12) in shooting at Finnish school, suspect of 12 arrested

A 12-year-old child was killed in a school shooting in the Finnish city of Vantaa, north of the capital Helsinki. The child was injured in the shooting incident and died from his injuries. Two other 12-year-old children were seriously injured.

Not long after the shooting, police arrested a 12-year-old suspect who was carrying a gun. The permit for that pistol is in the name of a family member of the suspect.

The suspect, himself a student at the school in Vantaa, has confessed, according to the police. Nothing is yet known about the motive.

Bystanders were asked to stay away from the area and stay indoors. All threats around the school are now over.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. local time. The school offers space for approximately 800 students. Lessons are given to children from 7 to 17. The school also has approximately 90 employees.
