United States secretly sent long-range missiles to Ukraine | War in Ukraine

“I can confirm that the United States has delivered long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine under direct orders from the President,” a US State Department spokesperson said.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also confirmed the delivery of a “significant number” of long-range missiles. Sullivan stated that more missiles will be delivered.

ATACMS stands for Army Tactical Missile System. The missiles reach a range of 300 kilometers. That is significantly further than the 160 kilometers of missiles that the US has made available since September.

According to the ministry, the long-range missiles are part of previous support packages for Ukraine. The recently adopted new support package worth 57 billion euros also includes the delivery of the missiles.

The delivery of the rockets fulfills Volodymyr Zelensky’s fervent wish. The Ukrainian president has been asking the Americans for long-range missiles for months. Zelensky has recently sounded the alarm about the lack of weapons in his armed forces.

Ukraine received the long-range missiles on the condition that they would only be used within Ukrainian borders.

The Ukrainian armed forces have already used the long-range missiles twice. The first time was on April 17. Then an airfield on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula was attacked.

The missiles were also used last Tuesday against Russian troops in southeastern Ukraine.
