Ipswich Town will play in the Premier League again next season after a 22-year absence. The number two of the Championship secured promotion in the last round on Saturday by beating Huddersfield Town 2-0.

Ipswich only needed a draw at Portman Road to keep number three Leeds United at bay. ‘The Blues’ won against Huddersfield with goals from Wes Burns and Omari Hutchinson. Champion Leicester City was already certain of promotion.

Ipswich last played at the highest English level in 2002. In 2001, the club finished fifth in the Premier League, but a year later it was relegated to the Championship as number eighteen. It means the second promotion in a row for Ipswich, as the club finished second in League One last season.

Leeds can still return to the Premier League after a year of absence. The team lost 1-2 to number four Southampton on the final day, despite a goal from former PSV player Joël Piroe. In addition to Leeds and Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City are also participating in the play-offs.

Birmingham City could not avoid relegation to League One. The number 22 won 1-0 against Norwich City, but competitors Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle also recorded a victory. In addition to Birmingham, Huddersfield and Rotherham United are also relegated to the third level.
