Well, I don’t see the point in putting it online here right now, but of course I have shared it with Tweakers, as well as all the other sites I visit. And as soon as I call someone online they often have it too, just like with some games.

The IP address is a trivial piece of information. If you have ports open there could be a legitimate problem, but I don’t know if you’ve ever looked at your router’s logs (if you even have one that logs that), they are being tried all the time, with slightly more Chinese IPs than others come along.

You can’t really DDoS an IP, it’s not a web service, it doesn’t return anything, given that the politician doesn’t run a website at home or something, or have an unsafe router. But then that’s the problem.

Of all the information you don’t want to leak, an IP address is really one of the least relevant. Online safety is knowing what you can and cannot share. Things like an email address + name or telephone number are much more sensitive. An IP address is barely more than nothing, every site you visit has that thing.

And if you still think “but I really want to keep my IP address just for me”, you can simply get an internet subscription without a fixed IP address (if you don’t already have one). Your provider will also be happy with this, because IP addresses are no longer free. But no one mentions that as a real security measure, because it is not relevant.
