Hassnae Bouazza: ‘Flirting doesn’t have to end in bed or marriage’

--

Gérard Depardieu’s large parasol. I picture huge, clumsy and ‘doesn’t fit in anywhere’. Quite a striking pet name, because who wants to get a parasol in them? Once it’s in there, unfolded, there’s no way you can get it out. Or maybe it closes again after the work is done, maybe that is it.

I love men, I really do, but the way entire armies think they have to seduce a woman never ceases to amaze me. And nowadays it is also difficult to just get in touch with nice people. In my time (ouch) men would just talk to you, there would be flirting in the street; Nowadays everything has to be online via apps and you also have to deal with retro clowns who think that as a woman you belong behind the counter.

I hear stories from single friends: laughable bios, surreal exchanges and disastrous dates. I describe that quite harshly, but it is actually quite sad. Many people want a nice relationship, but don’t even know how to behave.

If a woman doesn’t respond within an hour, they start making a fuss. Or types who say in their bio that they like respect, after which they start swearing at women. They don’t need a relationship, they need conversion therapy: from a rude jerk to a decent guy.
