Fiction top 6: April 2024

This month we looked again at the latest books of recent times. We have made another nice top 6 in the genre of fiction. There are even two debuts, where the new authors have set the bar very high for themselves. A nice addition! A beautiful Fantasy story should not be missing from our top 6. And of course we also have a number of stories in which you can swoon. This is our fiction top 6: April 2024!


The Book of Doors – Gareth Brown

Gareth Brown has written a fantastic debut with The Book of Doors. Cassie Andrews’ life is a bed of roses. She rents an apartment with her best friend and enjoys life to the fullest. Until one of her most loyal customers dies while working in a bookstore. When Cassie finds out that he left her two books, her adventure begins. One of the two books is The Book of Doors. A magical book in which no door remains closed. Cassie and her friend Izzy experience both wonderful and terrifying moments.

Bloodline – Simone van der Vlugt

A historical novel that takes the reader to the second half of the thirteenth century. While King Willem found himself in the middle of a power struggle with West Friesland, he became the father of two sons: Floris and Alard. Alard was conceived through an extramarital relationship. A story in which family vicissitudes play a major role. Especially when Willem loses the battle and Floris tries to take over his duties. A beautiful story that touches you and continues to haunt you even though you have finished the story.

With heart and soul – Katarina Widholm

A beautiful debut novel by the Swedish writer Katarina Widholm. With heart and soul is the first part of the series The Swedish Fate. When seventeen-year-old Betty goes to work as a maid for Dr. Molander’s family. To do this, she will have to leave her hometown and continue exploring the world. She soon discovers that it is hard work and that she has little time for other fun things. When the doctor’s unfriendly wife tries to make her life miserable, the fun is a bit lost. However, she does not let herself be known and quickly learns to keep the household running. She had met Martin on the way from her hometown to the doctor’s residence. They keep in touch, which provides Betty with the necessary distraction. The threat of a Second World War causes considerable stress. When Martin no longer answers her letters, she does everything she can to look for him.

One true loves – Taylor Jenkins Reid

When Emma Blair’s husband goes missing after a helicopter crash on their first wedding anniversary, her world falls apart. Her high school sweetheart has disappeared and how can she live again? She goes to her parents for comfort. There she meets a friend from the past, Sam. They fall in love and finally life smiles at her again. But then Emma gets a call from Jesse, her missing husband. How can she now make a choice between the two men?

A bull’s eye – Iris Visser

Floor Huisman goes for a drink with her colleague Jens. She secretly has a crush on him and then tells him her ideas for a new series. The next day, however, she comes home from a rude awakening; Jens ran away with her idea and introduced it during the editorial meeting. If Jens does not execute this plan properly, he makes sure that Floor fixes it for him. Floor is easy to let people walk all over and doesn’t dare say no. To do this, she has to look for her father, whom she has not had contact with for years. He is a former rock singer and she has to travel to Scotland. Because she has lost her driver’s license, she has to travel with Owen, a private driver. A wonderful book to swoon over.

King of wrath – Ana Huang

Vivian is introduced to Dante by her father. Her father has arranged for her to marry him. He turns out not to be the nice, sweet man she would like to marry. But because she is loyal to her family, she agrees to the request. What she doesn’t know, however, is that her father has made a different deal with this marriage than she thinks. A nice story with two opposites who are increasingly attracted to each other.
