Het Huus van de Taol has created a fifth season of the Drenthe-language podcast Praot Drents Met Mij in collaboration with RTV Drenthe.
In this podcast, director of the Huus van de Taol Renate Snoeijing talks to well-known and lesser-known Drenthe people about the role that the Drenthe language plays in their lives. Writer Marga Kool is a guest in this episode.
Marga Kool is one of the best-known Drenthe writers and is known as a fighter of the Drenthe language. Yet her mom and dad never came to Drenthe at all and Marga only came to live in Drenthe when she was eleven. To listen to it, she also learned the Drenthe language, but sometimes she exaggerated a bit: “I remember that I was Drenthe as Drenthe”.
Taol early played a role in Marga’s life. “I actually always wrote as soon as I knew it. I still found a notebook, in which I also wrote.”
If something came to her mind, she had to write it down right away, what a waste of time. She then starts with those ‘scribbles’ later: ‘After all, writing is very much a craftsmanship, then I really have to sit down for it’.
Marga is married to writer Jan Veenstra and never lets them read to each other. “Then neither of us can handle criticism very well. It’s easier from a devout person.”
Marga and Jan now both run the Theaterschuur in Linde. That was not the intention, but a request came from a theater group about the empty barn as rippetieruumte. Then the performances were over and from the first thing came the next day. “It is nice to offer a stage to writers, musicians and tenile groups that an audience can enjoy again.”
‘I’m still worried about everything. I don’t feel old at all. I’m still in my late forties. I still have a lot of ideas and plans.”
For Marga, ‘t Zwarte Gat is the most beautiful place in Drenthe where many memories are held. “It is a place near Linde, where I have lived, where I have walked and where I have had sex.”
