Many Gieters know that Giethoorn has an interesting art history. Many people have a Twaalfhoven or a Broer hanging on the wall in the living room. But what exactly is it? What did these painters mean, what do they have in common and how did it all come about?

Berber van der Veer, born and raised in Giethoorn-Noord, studied art history and philosophy at the University of Groningen and worked for years at the Groningen museum. She also asked herself these questions and became curious about the special history. Publisher W-BOOKS supported her in her intention to write a book about it.

Berber delved into the archives, visited museums and placed a call on Facebook to identify which paintings are still in private hands. She was overwhelmed by the amount of enthusiastic responses. She was forced to make a strict selection. After months of thorough research, writing and photography, she is currently putting the finishing touches to the book.

From the Writers House in Giethoorn-Noord she puts the finishing touches on everything. When she looks up from her laptop, she sees a vista captured on canvas by Broer. An inspiring environment.

Berber hopes that her book will be in stores in August-September.
