Life storytellers wanted! – The hurricane

--

Every person is unique. Every person has a story. And everyone’s story is worth recording. That is the motto of the Life Book project of the volunteer organization Humanitas. Personal stories of ordinary people are written down in a book, so that the story is not lost.

Last Saturday, April 20, the presentation of the book of life was held: The road with many bridges. The book describes the story of Evy Van Gelderen from Wormerveers. Evy, many know her from the riding school on the Vaartdijk in Assendelft, was presented with the first copy by writer Leny de Ruijter of Humanitas. The ceremony took place on April 20, 2024 at Evy’s home in the living room specially decorated for this event. The pleasant afternoon ended with a drink and delicious Indonesian dishes, homemade by Evy, that were delicious.

As the title of the book indicates, Evy’s life was not without its upheavals and there were times when she could no longer continue and had to take a step back. During a meeting of the senior citizens’ association (Kbo) at the beginning of this year, Evy, now 82, decided to entrust her life story to paper in order to give a place to the events. And it worked.

Your life story also in a book?
There is currently room for new books, for new storytellers.

A life story that makes you realize that the world is always turning, no matter what decisions we humans make, no matter what beautiful and sad things we experience, no matter how long we are on this earth. The writers of the Humanitas Life Book project would like to contribute to recording life stories.
