Transavia also has to cancel a number of flights this year due to a shortage of aircraft. This concerns travel in the period up to the end of June. The decision affects thousands of passengers.
Transavia has not revealed exactly how many flights are involved. It is clear that a few thousand people are affected by tour operator TUI alone. The group says it is surprised and disappointed. “We are doing everything we can to ensure that these holidays go ahead as planned as much as possible,” the company reports.
Sometimes another flight is available for victims on the same day. But it may also happen that flights have been moved to another day or another airport.
The latter can cause more difficulties, especially for those who have purchased individual tickets from Transavia. They may also have booked a separate overnight stay that they no longer need, for example because they are arriving a day later. Travelers are not reimbursed for these types of expenses as standard.
Keep receipts safe
Transavia does say that it deals leniently with these types of cases. A company spokesperson advises people to keep receipts safe.
Sunweb says it has now found a solution for 97 percent of the holidaymakers in question. There would be no major flight change for them. “For example, leave an hour earlier or later,” a spokesperson explains. However, she does not rule out that others will have to fly on a different day, which the company says would be “super annoying”.
It is not the first time that Transavia has had to cancel flights due to a shortage of aircraft. The knife also had to be included in the schedule last year. This was partly because the paperwork for a number of purchased devices was not in order. Furthermore, some aircraft were sidelined because there were too few parts.
