Blokker has lost three directors in a few months. The store chain is going through a difficult period and has been making losses for years. The departure of the directors is a bad signal, says retail expert Paul Moers.

Blokker confirms the departure of operational director Dennis Besems after reports from RTL News. The store chain will not comment further. Earlier, general manager Jeanine Holscher and financial director Allard Visser left.

“If three directors abandon a company so soon after each other, that is not a good sign,” says Moers. Certainly not for a company that urgently needs money.” Possible new financiers will now think twice before investing money in Blokker, he thinks.

The departure could indicate a disagreement with owner Mirage Retail, says Moers. “The big question is what to do next. Who wants to get burned by this?” Despite the company’s problems, he says there is still no plan in place.

Action and HEMA do make a profit

Moers is gloomy about the future of the store chain, while “the brand name is very well known”. “Blokker also sells products that people are really waiting for.” According to Moers, competitors HEMA and Action have managed to make a profit despite the challenging market conditions.

In recent months it has been rumored that owner Mirage Retail wants to sell the troubled Blokker. The group recently reported that it was having “constructive discussions” with “a select group of possible buyers” for Blokker. Mirage says it is “doing everything it can to safeguard the continuity of Blokker”.
