The RDW will issue a new version of the registration certificate in mid-June. The current contract with the current manufacturer is ending. The RDW seizes the moment to immediately implement a number of changes. Due to procurement rules, a new party will also take over production.
New reading equipment needed
In particular, there are small visible and invisible adjustments in features that should make the authenticity of the document clear. By changing the viewing angle of the new card, several features change. For example, the well-known RDW logo on the back will change color. On the front there is a small blue circle with an arrow in it that changes direction depending on the viewing angle. In addition, the new card has several images that are only visible under UV light.
In addition to the new features, there is also a new contact chip. The result is that reading equipment requires new software. This will be available on the RDW website later in the year. The rear will certainly be arranged differently for commercial vehicles and trailers. Instead of the separate certificate of conformity, the most relevant information can now be read on the back of the registration certificate.
Validity of current registration certificate
The registration certificate as we know it in credit card format has now been in circulation for 10 years. Just as the paper registration certificates from before are still valid and are replaced when ownership is transferred, this will be the same with the introduction of the new document.
