Joost Klein skipped his place in the Eurovision Song Contest rehearsal on Friday afternoon. The European Broadcasting Union is investigating an “incident” involving the artist. It is unclear what is going on.
“We are currently investigating an incident surrounding the Dutch entry. Klein will not rehearse for the time being,” the statement said. The EBU will not comment further.
Klein simply participated in the flag parade at the start of the show. His belongings were also initially carried onto the stage, but were abruptly removed and replaced with Israel’s bow.
“An investigation has indeed been initiated by the EBU following an incident. We await the outcome of this investigation and do not want to say anything about it until then,” said a statement from AVROTROS, the broadcaster that supervises Joost Klein.
It is unclear whether Klein will be allowed to rehearse at a later date. No announcements are made in the audience about Klein’s absence. The musician himself has removed all Eurovision-related posts from his Instagram Stories.
Klein’s performance is still in the repetition used in rehearsals. Images from last night were used for this.
