I often read that people don’t want these kinds of things, that they are concerned about privacy, etc., but I never read a good argument as to why this is problematic.

I actually want more communication to take place via official routes, via secure apps, etc
For example, think of all the scammers, or even if they are not scammers, you cannot easily verify whether someone is who they say they are. What if we get a call through a government app, where someone is verified when they call you, and you see on the screen that they really are who they say they are, etc.

Just give me a digital ID/Passport/Driver’s License where I can decide what information I share, so that when you buy alcohol, for example, only your photo and a check mark appears to indicate whether you are old enough, instead of them being able to see everything about you. If people don’t want that, that’s totally fine, but I do want it, and I just said official government apps as an answer.
