20 political groups are taking part in the European Parliament election on June 6. A total of 497 candidates are participating. The Electoral Council declared the candidate list of JESUS ALIVES invalid.
21 groups submitted lists of candidates to the Electoral Council. 3 parties had correctable deficiencies. This concerns, for example, missing pieces. All these omissions have been corrected.
Wim Kuijken, chairman of the Electoral Council: “The nomination procedure went smoothly. It remains a time-consuming procedure with a lot of paper administration. We are therefore pleased with the letter from the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations to the House of Representatives about the strengthening and digitalization of the nomination procedure. Realization will still take some time: it must be legally regulated and digital resources must be developed. The Electoral Council is happy to contribute to these next steps.”

The Electoral Council declared the following candidate lists valid. The numbering is as follows:
- GROENLINKS / Labor Party (PvdA)
- VVD
- CDA – European People’s Party
- Forum for Democracy
- D66
- Animal party
- 50PLUS
- PVV (Party for Freedom)
- JA21
- NL PLAN EU
- ChristianUnion
- Political Reformed Party (SGP)
- BBB
- More Direct Democracy

Invalid candidate list
The Electoral Council declared the candidate list of JESUS ALIVES invalid. The Electoral Act stipulates that political groups must use a model established by ministerial regulation for their nomination. In the document submitted by JESUS LIVES, the section with dates of birth of the candidates was missing and the signature of the handler was missing. The Electoral Council concludes that the list does not comply with the prescribed model and must be declared invalid. This omission is not a ‘recoverable omission’ according to the Electoral Act. That means it was not possible to correct this error.
List numbering
The Electoral Council has numbered the valid candidate lists. Parties that obtained at least 1 seat in the previous European Parliament election receive a number based on the number of votes in the previous election. The party with the highest number of votes gets number 1, and so on. The Electoral Council allocated the other list numbers by drawing lots.
Profession
Stakeholders and voters can appeal against the decisions of the Electoral Council (except against list numbering). This is possible until May 3. The Council of State will rule on any appeals by May 10 at the latest. The candidate lists are then irrevocably established. The definitively adopted lists of candidates will be made public as soon as possible.
Below is the official report of the public hearing.
