Watching YouTube without commercials often means that you will have to opt for a YouTube Premium subscription. That’s not cheap: 11.99 euros per month. Can’t that be cheaper? A Bright reader had exactly that thought and came up with a clever plan. And it seems to actually work.

After two years, YouTube no longer offers YouTube Premium Lite in the Netherlands and Belgium. That’s a shame, because it allowed you to watch YouTube videos without being disturbed by advertising for the price of 6.99 euros. Since the end of last year, Premium Lite has been discontinued in the Netherlands and Belgium, but there are still countries where this cheaper version of Premium is offered. One of those countries is Germany.

YouTube Premium Lite

When Premium Lite expired in the Netherlands during a trip to Germany, our tipster had the bright idea to take out a Premium Lite subscription there and to his great surprise, that was possible. And perhaps even more special: once back in the Netherlands, it turned out that the Premium Lite subscription continued as normal. Even when a little later they traveled again to Germany and back to the Netherlands. The subscription continued to work on Apple TV and iPhones.

If you take out from Germany, you will pay 5.99 euros per month for your YouTube Premium Lite and although you do not have all the benefits of the full Premium, you will at least get rid of the advertisements. So it is also one euro cheaper than the Dutch variant. The difference between Premium Lite and Premium is that Premium also allows you to download for offline use, play in the background and has no ads within the YouTube Music app.

Germany

So if you have planned a trip to Germany, it may be worth looking into this if you no longer want to see commercials on the video service. Especially now that Google has found a way to show even more advertising.
