Heineken has launched a recall for millions of small beer bottles produced since April. The brewer warns that there may be glass in it.

These are 25 centilitre bottles with screw drop, without a deposit. According to the brewer, glass flakes can come off the bottom and end up in the beer.

Heineken discovered the risk of glass chips through a customer who complained about it. “There was one customer who found the glass,” says the spokesperson for the brewer. There is a small chance that the glass is in the other millions of bottles, according to the spokesperson, “but we are erring on the safe side”.

After the complaint had been received, Heineken investigated. The batch of bottles that had been produced since April did indeed turn out to be not harmless. The investigation showed that the glass can peel off. Before April, Heineken was working with a different supplier.

The bottles are sold by supermarkets, wholesalers, liquor stores and web shops. Heineken says that consumers can return the bottles to the point of sale and receive a refund of the purchase price. The Heineken site lists all production numbers of bottles where there is a risk of glass in the beer.
