Kimberley left her first love, Bas Schothorst, in 2018. They had been married for three years at the time. In the podcast she looks back on this period. “At one point I was on some sinking houseboat in Amsterdam. (…) I had nothing. I had an Albert Heijn bag with clothes on a houseboat.”
The actress explains that during the period of her divorce she was in love with someone else. “I wanted a divorce, or I was getting divorced, I didn’t know it all yet, and I was in love with someone else.” She lets Kim know that she has had a lot of support from her during this turbulent time. “I just didn’t know where to go in my life. And if I had messed up. And then you’re standing at the door.”
Ultimately, the divorce did happen and shortly afterwards she decided to move on with Michel van den Bergh, the man she was in love with.
In conversation with KEK Mom Kimberley tells that she is also open about motherhood in her podcast with Kim. She struggles with finding the right balance between motherhood and her career. “If I work too much, I don’t see my child enough. If I do too little, I should do more to be able to hold my own financially. It’s a search for me too.”
She also suffered from neuroses for a long time, she says. “I drove myself crazy with all kinds of anxious thoughts: just checking that bed again, just checking again. Those fears were unreal, but they drove me completely crazy.”
Kimberley admits that she wishes another mother had helped her through these fears. “It would have helped me a lot if another mother had spoken openly about this and indicated that it is normal to have insecurity and fears, especially in that first period.” That’s why she thinks it’s important to be at their “honest and most vulnerable” in the podcast. “A big laugh and sometimes a tear, you hear it all.
