A major fire broke out in a car company on the NieuwZeelandweg in the Western Docklands on Friday evening. The fire brigade is having difficulty getting the fire under control.

A fire brigade spokesperson said around 11 p.m. that the flames were ‘spreading out again’. “That is bad news. Although we have sufficient equipment with us, it is proving to be very difficult to get the fire out.”

The fire broke out around 9:30 PM at a company specializing in car electronics. The business premises can no longer be saved. The fire brigade is now trying to prevent the fire from spreading to one of the five adjacent companies. A spokesperson does not rule out that a fire could still break out in one of the business premises.

Shortly after the fire broke out, the fire brigade scaled up to a ‘very large fire’, which means that additional equipment, also from fire brigade units outside Amsterdam, is deployed to extinguish the fire.

The fire is causing a lot of smoke, which can be seen in the wider area. The fire brigade recommends staying away from the area and – for those living nearby – closing all windows and doors.
