Max Verstappen will be hunting for sporting revenge this weekend in Japan. The Dutchman dropped out two weeks ago in Australia, but that doesn’t seem to bother him. According to Helmut Marko, Verstappen was enjoying skiing this week, although that may not be allowed according to his contract.
Verstappen had a difficult race weekend in Australia. The pace of the Red Bull was a bit disappointing all weekend and the Ferraris were very fast. Verstappen suffered from braking problems and was overtaken by Carlos Sainz early in the race. For a moment it looked like Verstappen was starting to chase Sainz, but the braking problems threw a spanner in the works. Verstappen dropped out again for the first time in two years.
Afterwards he reacted very realistically and calmly to his unfortunate failure. According to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, Verstappen quickly changed his mind. In conversation with OE24, Marko said that Verstappen has already been in Japan for a few days: “Unfortunately, these types of braking problems sometimes occur. In the meantime, Max was skiing in Japan in the most beautiful deep snow in the world.” OE24 confronts Marko with the fact that Verstappen is not allowed to do these kinds of things according to his contract. Marko responds quickly: “Then I’ve already told you too much!”
