Travis Scott no longer wants to be part of the lawsuits over the Astroworld festival, which caused ten deaths in 2021. His lawyers have submitted a request to this effect. The 32-year-old rapper was co-organizer of the event in Houston, America.

During the festival, a large crowd tried to get closer to the stage during Scott’s performance. Ten people were killed. Another five thousand people were injured in the melee.

A week after the tragedy, it turned out that permits were not in order and that security personnel had not been properly trained. It also took too long before action was taken.

Scott’s lawyers argue that “performers cannot be expected to provide special protection to the public” and that Scott had no responsibility for safety on the premises. Moreover, the rapper would not have noticed that there was unrest in the audience.

“No one disputes that Astroworld has been struck by a tragedy,” the lawyers’ statement read. “But performing at a concert does not equate to the power to control a crowd, or to secure a venue safely.”

Last year, a jury in the US state of Texas decided that Scott should not be prosecuted for the deadly tragedy. But there are still some civil lawsuits pending against the rapper. Some relatives have already reached a settlement with Scott.
