If there is one program that has come under fire in recent weeks, it is ‘Married at First Sight’. The most recent season was packed with mismatches, which is why more and more viewers think that the program makers are only looking for sensation and not for successful marriages. Carlo Boszhard (54) responds extensively to all criticism in his column for ‘Televizier’ today.
“They determine who is matched, not the program makers”
Carlo says that despite all the criticism, there will be a new season. He also immediately responds to the criticism of expert Patrick van Veen, who indicated that TV makers interfere in everything. “I find it annoying to notice that ITV and RTL are more focused on making TV and that they sometimes whisper to me something that I do not support,” Patrick previously told Show news.
However, according to Carlo, it is really the experts who are ultimately responsible for the matches. “To immediately remove all noise: they determine who is matched, not the program makers. There can of course be friction about the how and what of this process, but I have great faith that we can reach a solution together. But that someone will be cast because it makes for spectacular television is definitely not true.”
Carlo explains that he has already spoken to many potential candidates on test days. “There I really had conversations with people who I really appreciated. And my TV heart also really started beating more for one person than for the other. But if there was no match that the experts believed in, then it went well. Don’t party on.” He emphasizes that love was indeed found in the recent season. “Of course things can and should be better and that is why I hope for a reliable new method of attraction.”
The presenter acknowledges that this does not always have to result in love. “But perhaps more passion. And with that same passion I will enter the tenth season next year with the team and the experts. Looking for the new Jeppe and Jantine or Rowan and Astleigh. That I also encounter candidates such as Chantal, Anneke, Dirk , Sarath, Malou and the sweet Sylvia is certainly not a punishment. They are forever in the hearts of me and the viewer and they would never have wanted to miss this adventure. No matter how crazy it may be.”
