John Cleese spends 17,000 pounds (19,744 euros) annually on stem cell therapy. The 84-year-old English comedian wants to combat his aging. He says this in an interview with Saga Magazinethe first fragments of which were published on Tuesday.

Stem cell therapy uses stem cells to replace damaged or absent cells, for example in the brain or skin. Cleese says he has been receiving stem cell therapy for twenty years, every twelve to eighteen months. The actor travels to Switzerland for this, because the quality of the cells is said to be higher there.

“I think that’s why I don’t look bad for an 84-year-old,” says Cleese. “If it gives me a few extra years, I think it’s worth the money.”

Cleese is married to 52-year-old Jennifer Wade. The actor says that he sometimes receives comments about the age difference, but that people quickly come back to it as soon as they see the couple together.

“She keeps me young,” says Cleese, who regrets not getting more time with Wade. “It’s sad to think that I’ll die a lot sooner than them, but I’m in pretty good health. I’m not fit, but as I like to put it: the doctors don’t know yet what I will die of.”
