A party on King’s Night, strolling through the flea market or just wandering through the city on King’s Day; This year too, there is plenty to do on the monarch’s birthday. We have listed some of the best things for you. First of all, you can watch AT5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. we will be live with four teams at many different locations in the city.

King’s Night is almost as popular as King’s Day. There are numerous fall celebrations spread across the city. At midnight, café De Blaffende Vis traditionally unveils a huge work of art by the royal family on the facade.

King’s Night:

On the Amstelveld you can dance for free at Brasserie Nel, or go wild at café Thijssen in the Jordaan. At The Other Side you can find music from more established names, but also emerging talent. Or take a different approach and dance until the early hours in the Westerunie at Funhouse.

In Radion you can dance to the beats of DJ Bone and in Noord you can go to Peanut Butter Jelly Royal Domination Night at Sexyland.

In South-east you can go to Grand-Cafe ZO for a Kizomba Fusion workshop and in Het Sieraad Olivier Weiter and Miss Melera will keep you busy all night long.

Royal day:

Bargain hunters can visit numerous flea markets on King’s Day. Perhaps the most popular one can be found in the Westerstraat in the Jordaan. But the Beethovenstraat in Oud-Zuid or the Buikersloterplein in Noord are also good places to buy second-hand items.

The free markets last from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., are accessible to everyone and are only intended to sell items. Offering food items is only permitted to those who are registered with the Chamber of Commerce. Animals may not be sold. A list of all free markets can be found here.

In addition to free markets, there are also plenty of parties on King’s Day. At the Olympic Stadium you can go for Oranjebloesem and in the RAI you can dance at Kingsland to the music of Martin Garrix, Antoon and Broederliefde, among others.

Public transport:

About 100,000 people are expected to come to the city for King’s Day. Just like last year, the NS will therefore use longer trains. There are also a few extra measures on the train: no alcohol is allowed on King’s Night and Day.

The easiest way to travel within the city is on foot or by public transport. Buses, trams and metros run with an adjusted timetable. RAI station is also closed all day and Europaplein and Amstelveenseweg stations close at 6 p.m.

Some of the buses and trams run a modified route and the ferries operate normally. The NDSM ferry sails all night on both King’s Day and King’s Night. More information about public transport can be found here on the GVB website.

Weather:

After two weeks of cold and rain, the temperature rises slightly on King’s Day. However, according to Weeronline, it is a good idea to wear warm clothing. The nights in particular can still be cold. Anyone who goes out early on King’s Day must also take low temperatures into account.

During King’s Day the mercury rises to about 16 degrees. The sun occasionally breaks through the clouds and it will probably remain largely dry.
