MIDDELBURG – ProRail will be working on Middelburg station for three weeks from next week. The beams that currently support the platform roof will be replaced for an even sturdier construction. This is a temporary solution until the actual renovation of the station is carried out.
There will be a temporary scaffolding construction under the platform roof. This means that the three current support beams, which provide support in the most important places, can be removed. ProRail is taking this measure on the advice of Movares engineering firm. The new construction must last for a longer period of time and be more resistant to wind and weather.
Attractive appearance
To give the station a more attractive appearance until the start of the renovation, poems and photos will be placed on the wooden panels at the station. This is thanks to Michael van Oostende, the new city poet of Middelburg. In this way we try to provide a pleasant distraction to waiting travelers. At the same time, we show the historical and cultural value of the station with the poems and historical photos of the station building.
The preparatory work will take place in week 14. The scaffolding will be placed a week later. The photos and texts of the city poet will be posted in the week of April 15.
