The outgoing cabinet wants to invest at least 1 billion euros in the Eindhoven region in order to keep tech companies such as ASM and NXP in the Netherlands. The government may use money from the National Growth Fund for this.

Various media report this, including the NOS. The money must be used for better infrastructure in the so-called ‘Brainport’, so that ASML, among others, can expand. In addition, almost a billion must be spent on technical education. The plans are called ‘Project Beethoven’.

The package of measures has not yet been completed and there is also no agreement on much-requested tax measures. Large companies such as ASML and Boskalis recently indicated that they may move abroad if the Netherlands does not take tax measures that make the Netherlands more attractive to them.

Alternatives

There is a lot of criticism from companies about tax measures taken just before the elections, such as taxes on share purchases and higher wealth taxes. There was also a lot of criticism of the announced cuts in the expat scheme. This arrangement may be retained due to the criticism.

State Secretary Marnix van Rij (Tax) is expected to soon come up with several alternatives to higher taxes for companies.
