Veere wants to make a plan to improve the Northwest Route. To obtain input, various focus groups have been set up with entrepreneurs, residents and social organizations, who can help think about solutions. “We want to think together with our residents how we can solve this,” says councilor Ruud van Houten about the focus group plan.
“Because it cannot be the case that village center A says: we don’t want cars, but then it becomes much busier in village center B. We have to look together at how we can distribute this fairly, so that everyone experiences less inconvenience,” says Van Houten.
The focus groups include people from Serooskerke, Grijpskerke, Domburg, Meliskerke, Aagtekerke and Oostkapelle. “Sixty people are involved and in a number of sessions they will look at how to proceed. This is led by specialists. We hire them specifically to supervise this properly,” says the councilor.
But more input is requested from the residents in the municipality of Veere: “This is one link. There will also be all kinds of surveys and interviews on the street. The focus group is a small part of the process.”
The councilor hopes that the focus groups will come up with a state of affairs this summer. “I’m always very ambitious.” But he also indicates that it may take some time before the problems are resolved. “That still involves a lot of work and there are also many other parties involved. It will take some time, but if we don’t do anything now….”
He continues: “We should have done something ten years ago, we often hear. That’s true, but we didn’t do that. So now we have to get to work.”
