Yassir Laarille likes the combination of Scheldemond College and JVOZ

--

He was already a student at Scheldemond College, but since this season he has also been a player for JVOZ O16. A combination that Yassir Laarille really likes. ‘It’s a nice school and the fact that I can now train straight after school is ideal.’

15-year-old Yassir is having a great time at the Youth Football Training Zeeland, where he plays as ‘number ten’ in the JO16. A role that suits his qualities. At his previous club RCS from Oost-Souburg he played from the age of five to fifteen, mainly as a left or right forward. “When you get the opportunity to join JVOZ, it feels like an honor and also a confirmation that I have stood out as a footballer at my club. My technical skills were one of the main reasons why I was asked to join the JVOZ training course.”

He is also happy with the fact that nothing has changed for Yassir in terms of school. “I already went to Scheldemond College and it is a very nice school for me. My friends are also there and there is always a point of contact from JVOZ, which is also nice. In addition, I no longer have to train in the evening, but due to the collaboration that the school has with JVOZ, the training times are tailored to the lessons. This means I can now go to the training field four times immediately after school, which saves me quite a bit of time and I no longer have to do my homework in the evening after training at RCS as before.”

In terms of grades, the graduating student at Scheldemond College is also doing well and he can combine playing football and learning with confidence. “That is indeed going well. Fortunately, because there are also good agreements between the school and JVOZ that football is put on the back burner in the event of poor school results. That is not the case with me and so after school I can do what I love most and that is playing football.”

Yassir’s parents also received excellent explanations from Scheldemond College and JVOZ about the matters and agreements that are important when someone transfers from their club to JVOZ and what changes occur at school. “That is all well explained and it is great that they do it that way. This way everyone knows very well what can and cannot be expected. This makes the transition a lot easier.”

In all likelihood, Yassir will also play his matches for JVOZ next season. “That is the intention. Because they don’t have a JO19 at the JVOZ, I will normally play another year with dispensation in the JO16. An excellent learning experience for me, because there are still plenty of things in my game that I can and need to improve. Ultimately, I hope that I might end up in professional football. But I am also aware that this is not for everyone. Fortunately, I still have my school to fall back on. As long as I can continue to combine those two things well, I will do everything I can to get the most out of it.”
