WITH VIDEOA day after the derby between Kloetinge and Hoek, both club presidents look back with satisfaction on the course of events surrounding the match, although two incidents are regretted and condemned. The overall conclusion is that the safety measures have worked well. More than 3,000 spectators attended the meeting on Friday evening.

“When so many people come to the park, it creates pressure, but I think the organization, the security guards, the police and the many volunteers deserve a compliment. It was a great pass,” says Jan-Kees de Bruine, chairman of Kloetinge. “It was well organised,” says Hoek president Ad van Langevelde.

Just like the first leg, the return was also surrounded by the necessary safety measures. The visiting supporters had to use a mandatory bus combination, a special section had been created and there was a general ban on fireworks. Spectators were searched at the entrance. There were 25 security guards present as well as numerous police officers.

It was clear that it was busy in Kloetinge, as can be seen in this video report. The text continues after the video:

In the run-up to the derby, the boards of both clubs had joint consultations with the police and security. “The connection with Kloetinge has greatly improved through the derbies,” says Van Langevelde. “We have shown that we have taken it seriously,” says De Bruine. “And in the end the measures were justified.”

For example, at the end of the match there was a disturbance with the supporters, which was quickly nipped in the bud by the stewards and security guards. However, the match was stopped for five minutes as a result, by order of the referee. Immediately afterwards, press photographer Johan van der Heijden had to pay the price. He ended up on the ground after a push from Hoek player Sylvio Hage. The attacker contacted the photographer a day later and apologized.

And then the match was stopped for almost twenty minutes in the second half on Friday evening, because some light poles failed. Kloetinge was also confronted with this during weekday training evenings. “We tested the light installation last week,” says De Bruine. “And during the match we had a mechanic in the background. This allowed the problem to be resolved fairly quickly during the match.”

At the next match between Kloetinge and Hoek, both clubs will consult again about the measures to be taken. “We try to take a step forward every time,” say both chairmen.
