Dozens, if not hundreds, of pallets of five-liter bottles of water are brought from Norg to the Ukrainian front, where the war against Russia is raging. The Drenthe drinking water company WMD donates the bottles to the Holland Ukraine Foundation. “A considerable operation. They are driving across Europe today with three trucks,” says chairman Dick Nijssen of the foundation.
The WMD came to the foundation through-via. The assignment was tailor-made for Holland Ukraine, because they also transport hospital beds from the Netherlands to Ukraine every week. “We have our people there and they know the area well,” says Nijssen.
WMD benefited from getting rid of the water, because it only had a shelf life of six months. “This drink is normally used in emergencies. These bottles have a date until when they are used. It is a shame to let this date expire. Even though the quality of the water is still excellent,” says a spokesperson for the WMD .
The foundation is very happy with it, because the water is desperately needed, according to Nijssen. Nijssen: “Those soldiers have to drink a little water every now and then. The first two trucks go to a military center in Kiev and the other trucks drive on to the south of the country to provide the soldiers with water.”
