Dhe planned opening of a drive-through coffee shop on Griffioenlaan in Utrecht is being delayed by incomplete permitting processes and an ongoing legal battle, RTV Utrecht reported last Friday. Although the building next to P+R Westraven is almost ready for use, the coffee shop will not open for the time being due to ongoing complications.

Long-cherished plans have their origins in 2007

The plans for a drive-through coffee shop are almost two decades old.

In 2007, an initial application was submitted for a coffee shop where motorists could drive past a window to make their purchases.

Despite the revival of this initiative last year, its realization remains hampered by legal and logistical obstacles.

Conflict with public transport provider Qbuzz

Summary proceedings initiated by Qbuzz have further delayed the opening of the coffee shop.

The public transport provider fears additional traffic nuisance that could disrupt the bus and tram timetables, especially during busy trade fair days. Although the coffee shop claims to provide sufficient parking to prevent congestion, the conflict with Qbuzz remains unresolved.

The expected court ruling, together with ongoing permit processes, now determines the further course and final opening date of the drive-through coffee shop on Griffioenlaan in Utrecht.
