Ron Jans will not be the new trainer of Ajax or Feyenoord, the FC Utrecht trainer indicated in conversation with Voetbal International. Jans, who is regularly mentioned when vacancies become available at the (sub)top of the Eredivisie, is in a good place at FC Utrecht and would like to serve out his contract in the Domstad.

Jans calls it a token of appreciation that his name is mentioned when coaches leave at clubs at the top of the Eredivisie, such as in this case at Ajax and Feyenoord with John van ‘t Schip and Arne Slot respectively. That’s it, because a switch to one of these clubs is not going to happen now: “I am now at Utrecht, and I am not leaving either. So no one has to call. I still have a year and a half contract and I will at least serve that. I am having a great time here,” Jans makes clear.

In the past, the FC Utrecht trainer has been asked by Feyenoord or Ajax. The 65-year-old coach does not want to reveal which club it was: “I was at FC Groningen at the time, it must have been somewhere in 2008 or 2009. It was Ajax or Feyenoord, one of the two. I was asked once and then I never heard anything about it again. But I look back on my career with great pleasure. Not with the idea: something is missing,” says Jans, who also worked for PEC Zwolle and FC Twente.

In the years in which Jans would have been approached by a Dutch top club, Feyenoord appointed Gertjan Verbeek and Mario Been as head coaches, while Ajax joined forces with Marco van Basten in 2008 and a year later appointed Martin Jol as coach.
