MAARSSENBROEK > The quality of the living environment in the Ruimtekwartier in Maarssen is not yet fully understood. For example, the studies conducted do not yet show what noise and wind nuisance new residents will experience. This is what the Commission for Environmental Impact Assessment says in its advice on the environmental impact report (MER). The municipality of Stichtse Vecht had asked the Commission to assess this report.

The municipality of Stichtse Vecht wants to redevelop the office and business location Planetenbaan and the Kwadrant into a residential location. Approximately 2,300 homes may be built in the area. In addition, commercial functions and social business spaces are planned. The area must have an urban appearance, surrounded by greenery.

The report did investigate the noise levels in the area, but it has not yet been investigated to what extent the new residents of the Ruimtekwartier will be inconvenienced by this. There is also no complete picture yet of the wind nuisance around the buildings. This makes it unclear to what extent there is a healthy living environment. A different placement, shape or height of the buildings may have a favorable influence on this. The Commission says this in its advice.

The design also influences nature, landscape and climate. Adjustments to the design or other measures may offer opportunities to strengthen nature and improve the climate robustness of the area. The Commission has recommended supplementing the missing insights before making a decision on the zoning plan.
