The Royal family celebrates King’s Day in Emmen on Saturday. But elsewhere in Drenthe and Groningen, Willem-Alexander’s birthday is also celebrated with festivals, free markets and more.

If you are not going to Emmen, you can still go to the places below for the royal orange feeling.

Groningen

The Oranjevereniging Groningen celebrates King’s Day for the hundredth time. So there is a large program in which music and the free market on the canals form the main part.

Friday evening the Vismarkt will be going wild with a music program featuring performances by Starfish, Kevin Paré and the Super Troopers of the Abba Experience.

There will be a Dance Battle at the Vismarkt on Saturday at 11:15 am. This will be followed by performances by Brontsema and Staal, Pjotr, Hot Leggs, Tik Tok Tammo, Van De Straat and Jammah Tammah Groove Express. More information about the line up is can be found here .

Free market Singels

Do you have some leftover items due to the spring fever? No problem, this King’s Day you can also sell your things at the flea market. From 7:00 am you are welcome to set up your stall or spread out your rug. Take each other into account, give each other space and think about others when displaying your things. At the Westerhaven you can go to the children’s free market from 9:00 am.

Kingsland

The Groningen edition of Kingsland will be held in the Stadspark on Saturday. There will be performances by Antoon, Bizzey and Bilal Wahib, among others. The complete program and more information can be found here .

Just like in Groningen, the festivities in Assen start on Friday evening with King’s Night. Live music can be seen and heard on the various squares all evening and night.

King’s Day will be celebrated on Saturday with a ‘complete family festival’. The city center is occupied by a flea market, live music, dance performances, outdoor activities, old Dutch games, bouncy castles and artistic and cultural demonstrations

Winschoten

Winschoten kicks off Willem-Alexander’s birthday on Friday evening with King’s Night on the Marktplein. The music festival continues on Saturday.

During King’s Day, the Winschoten King’s Market takes place in the city center. There is food, music, a fair, a flea market and plenty of orange activities. This takes place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Roden

King’s Day will be celebrated in Roden from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on and around the Albertsbaan. There are music performances, dance demonstrations and music bands tour the village. A playground has been set up on the Albertsbaan with various activities, including classics such as sack races, sidewalk chalk and the Kop van Jut.

The flea market takes place in the Heerestraat, Wilhelminastraat and Albertsbaan.

City Canal

Stadskanaal has been celebrating King’s Day since the early 1990s. First of all, the musical Knoalster Nacht starts on Friday evening, followed by a large free market on Saturday. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Meppel

The royal family may visit Emmen, but Meppel has organized a program that can almost be called royal. It starts at 9 a.m. with a flea market in the Brede Woldstraat. Half an hour later, an aubade is heard on Kerkplein during which a glass of orange bitters is served.

De starts at 2 p.m. on the Groenmarkt just wanted XXL Pirate Tour with performances by Dries Roelvink, Anno Britting, Klazine and Simply Jacob.

The Alexander Festival will be held on the steamboat quay from 1 p.m. with music by Pieperts, Lemonade, Streach and Alexander’s band.

Hoogeveen

A huge fair, children’s free market, flea market, music, entertainment and lots of fun. That’s what Hoogeveen promises on Saturday. The children’s free market starts at 8 a.m. in Schutstraat.

The King’s Day Fair in the city center has a record number of stalls this year with 185 traders. You will find the flea market on Hoofdstraat-Noord.

Noah Sipma, Hans van Dongen, Just2Mention, Herbie Blues, Mr. Beatz, Ilone & Erwin and the Flageolettes perform in the center. The Down With The Kingfest takes place in the evening on Hoofdstraat Noord with Overruled, Skroetbalg and The Servants.

Beilen

In Beilen, King’s Day is celebrated from Thursday to Saturday. The festivities take place behind the town hall. There is bingo on Thursday, King’s Night takes place on Friday and there are children’s activities and music on Saturday.

Schoonebeek

During King’s Night, Old Rocks will perform. On King’s Day, kites are flown and there is a free market and flea market. There is live music from Jackfire. View the full program here .

Seemed

According to Volksvermaken, Leek will turn orange on Saturday during the dress market where young people in particular have the opportunity to sell items or to entertain passers-by with music, dance or other talents. Dam Square, Tolberterstraat, Passage and Samuel Leviestraat are the setting for the market, which is held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The King’s Festival will then take place on the event site with performances by Billy Dans, Django Wagner, Jannes, Henk Dissel, Rutger van Barneveld and Uit oe Bolleke.

Middelstum

Middelstum celebrates King’s Day at Concordiaplein between 10:30 am and 9:00 pm. It starts with an aubade, followed by the children’s program. There will be performances by Two Topperz and Burdy from 12 noon.

Zuidlaren

The Orange flea market takes place on the Brink between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mayor Marcel Thijsen opens the celebration of King’s Day at 9:30 am with the raising of the flag with musical support from the Harmonieorkest Patrimonium from Groningen.

Eelde-Paterswolde

There is a flea market along the Hoofdweg from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All kinds of activities take place at “Het Kampje” and at the Jumboplein, including a demonstration by the fire brigade.

Freeze

From 11.15 am there are various activities on the Brink and Brinkstraat, such as the children’s free market. The annual traditional bicycle tour from Grand Café ‘Onder de Linden’ takes place at 1 p.m.

Tynaarlo

There is a free market from 11.20 am. All kinds of activities will be set up on the schoolyard at the Karrepad, followed by live music at 3:30 PM.

Southhorn

Zuidhorn pretends to hold the largest Orange Market in the region from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day opens at 9 a.m. with an aubade and the hoisting of the Dutch tricolor at the town hall. The fair is already underway in the center. On the Burg. de Vrieslaan, Stationsweg and Wilhelminalaan, the children’s free market takes place. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. there will be music by Autumn Flowers, Shantykoor Allemanseindje and Jeroen Oosterhof.

There is a party tent on the Hooiweg with performances by singer Arnold and Frank van Etten (free entrance until 6 p.m.).

Winsum

On King’s Day there is the annual free market on the Dorpsplein, De Bazuin makes music and the ArtemisRun is held in the afternoon. This year for the first time with KidsRun. The activities in the center take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Sappemeer

On the site, where the weekly Saturday market is held, there is now a free market between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The children’s flea market is held on the grounds of the StruvéCenter (Jumbo) and the Aldi in Sappemeer. The gates open at 7am. In and around the Dr. A. Jacobsstraat a Little Fair is held. A stage has been set up in various places where live music is performed.

Delfzijl

King’s Day will be opened in Delfzijl on the Molenbergplein by one of the members of the mayor and aldermen and S. van der Zweep, chairman of the Orange Committee. The flea market starts at 10 a.m. and music will be made by several artists.

Activities for children are set up on Molenbergplein, such as bouncy castles, climbing equipment and one of the longest obstacle courses in the Netherlands.

Veendam

The free market takes place in the center, on Raadhuisplein, Museumplein, Promenade and Kerkstraat between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Bogdike Toeter Ride, a 120 kilometer tour for classic motorcycles, will be held between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
