De Jong reaches the European Championship

Federal physician Edwin Goedhart has been in conversation with Football International have announced that they do not fear a possible absence of Frenkie de Jong at the European Championships in Germany next summer.

The star player of the Dutch national team was injured last Sunday el Clasico (3-2 defeat) injured his ankle for the third time this season after a duel with Federico Valverde.

Football-loving Netherlands held their breath when De Jong was carried off the field on a stretcher. Later, photos of the creative’s double-folding ankle were shared on social media and the shock was understandably great.

FC Barcelona communicated a day later that he will no longer play for this season los Azulgrana, but that the European Championship was not yet on the cards for him. KNVB doctor Goedhart also confirms this VIjournalist Simon Zwartkruis.

“For the time being, we have no reason to believe that he will not reach the European Championships,” the doctor noted. Earlier, national coach Ronald Koeman was also cautiously optimistic about the European Championship chances of De Jong and Memphis Depay. The latter has been in jail since the beginning of April.

Spanish media previously speculated that De Jong’s recovery time will be around five to six weeks. On June 16, the Netherlands will play its first group match of the final tournament against Poland. Five days later the top match against France is on the schedule and the group ends with the international match against Austria.

So far, the 26-year-old midfielder has 54 caps to his name. On September 6, 2018, he received his tenderloin after making his debut against Peru. De Jong scored twice in those 54 games.
