A fire has been raging in a large warehouse in Vlaardingen since this morning. According to Rijnmond, there is an art project in the building.
The fire was discovered around 6:50 am. According to the regional broadcaster, at least ten fire trucks have been deployed to fight the fire. The fire brigade also extinguishes the fire from a boat. The fire was under control around 9 a.m. The fire brigade is carrying out demolition work to completely extinguish the fire.
The fire released a lot of smoke, which, according to the fire brigade, blew towards Schiedam. Part of the building’s roof has collapsed. Parts of the warehouse are blackened and windows are broken.
I assume everything is completely gone.
The former business premises are owned by the municipality. The building is used by six artists, among others. A man who is watching the fire tells the broadcaster that he is rehearsing with his band in the warehouse. “I was completely shocked, jumped in my car and drove here. I can now also see the smoke coming out very close to our practice room,” he says.
There is also a concerned artist at the building. “All my work is there. My photo installation, physical works and theater clothing,” she tells Rijnmond. “These are all things for which you can be insured, but you can’t get that back. So I assume that everything is just completely gone.”
As far as we know, no one was injured. Nothing is yet known about the cause of the fire.
