JOURE – On May 1 at 10.30 am there will be a lecture in the Joure Library about the liberation of the Northern Netherlands. Joël Stoppels will speak about the advance of the Canadians from D-Day, and specifically about the events surrounding the Afsluitdijk and Delfzijl.

Liberation of the Northern Netherlands This year marks 79 years since tens of thousands of Canadian soldiers liberated us from the German occupation. During the Senior Café on May 1, Joël Stoppels will discuss in detail the advance of the Canadians from D-Day to the Afsluitdijk and Delfzijl. Joël Stoppels is currently working with Harold de Jong on a book about the liberation of the north of the Netherlands in April and May 1945. Through thorough research in the Canadian archives, many new facts have come to light. This new information will serve as a guide for this special lecture. Supplemented with eyewitness accounts, videos and a presentation, Joël Stoppels will tell the story in a fascinating and impressive way.
