The demolition of the current southern ring road started on Saturday. This concerns the section between Julianaplein and Europaplein. The demolition of the ring road will cause a lot of inconvenience to those living in the immediate vicinity, reports Approach Ring Zuid. This concerns noise pollution, vibrations, dust and extra construction traffic.

This section between Julianaplein and Europaweg will be replaced by a sunken ring road. On September 2, when traffic can pass through the sunken location, the current ring road will almost completely disappear.

Demolition of southern ring road

The demolition of the ring road will take place in seven phases, with the ring road being divided into seven sections.

Section 1: Rivierenbuurt/Herewegbuurt
Section 2: Hereweg
Section 3: Herewegbuurt/Kempkensberg
Box 4: Track
Section 5: Oosterpoort/De Linie
Section 6: Oosterpoort/Oude Winschoterdiep
Section 7: De Meeuwen/Europapark

When demolishing the ring road, a start is made at the ends. This work already started on Saturday. As soon as the ring road has been removed here, a new construction pit can be made to build the ends of the sunken location. Demolition also started at Waterloolaan this weekend. Removing a section of the ring road there is to create a shortcut for construction traffic.

What is open and closed April 27 – May 3

The current ring road will be increasingly decommissioned in the near future. From Saturday, the ring road in an eastern direction will be closed from the exit to Driebond (Osloweg) to Julianaplein. This applies to traffic from the eastern ring road. Traffic from the A7 (Hoogezand) will no longer be able to enter the southern ring road.

Since Saturday, traffic from the A28 (from Haren/Assen) can still go to Hoogezand, but via a temporary route. Traffic is diverted to the Centrum exit, towards Hereweg, and can then continue straight via the entrance ramp towards Europaplein/Hoogezand. This traffic uses the north lane of the ring road. This temporary route will continue until Friday evening, May 3. After that, traffic from the A28 can no longer go towards Hoogezand.
