Brazil is the only remaining competitor for the Netherlands to organize the Women’s World Cup in 2027. The United States and Mexico officially withdrew their bid, leaving only two parties. Next month it will become clear who will take the honors.

On April 24, 2023, FIFA announced that the Netherlands was interested in organizing the World Cup in three years. The KNVB submitted a bid together with Belgium and Germany. Brazil also signed up in April last year, as did South Africa and the joint bid of Mexico and the United States. The latter parties therefore dropped out, making it a two-way battle.

The Netherlands has never organized a World Cup, Germany did in 2011. The competition from Brazil is fierce, partly because a South American country has never organized a women’s World Cup before. FIFA prides itself on the fact that these types of final tournaments must be played all over the world to maintain equality.

On May 17, a FIFA congress in Bangkok will vote on the allocation of the organization. If the Netherlands, together with Belgium and Germany, are awarded the World Cup, they may play in the Johan Cruijff Arena, De Kuip, the Philips Stadium, the Grolsch Veste and the Abe Lenstra Stadium. These are the stadiums previously designated by the KNVB.
