If you had to believe the stories in the corridors, it would be a miracle if Viaplay would survive after all the misery. Let alone that they can broadcast F1 for a while longer. But apparently this is the day that Easter and Pentecost fall on the same day. It’s official: despite fierce competition from Ziggo – and reportedly Apple – Viaplay will retain the F1 rights in the Netherlands for a while

F1 announced this in an official statement. Viaplay buys the F1 rights until the 2029 season. Until then, the Swedish company can broadcast F1 in the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and the home country. It is not known what Viaplay pays for the F1 rights. F1 does indicate that Viaplay is doing well in the Netherlands. In 2023, 12 million Dutch people watched F1. That is 35 percent more than the season before.

Max Verstappen reacts to the news

F1 champion Verstappen (whose Viaplay logo is on his caps) was also asked for his opinion. ‘I am very pleased that Viaplay has concluded this long-term agreement with Formula 1. They, like me, strive for perfection. I am therefore looking forward to continuing our collaboration. It’s great that Viaplay is bringing my achievements closer to the viewers.’ We are one hundred percent sure that he really said this himself.
