Four homes on Molenkampsteeg were demolished at the beginning of 2023. For this purpose, four energy-efficient social rental homes will be rebuilt. The homes will be delivered in early 2025.

The festive start of the new construction project on Molenkampsteeg in Haren was on Thursday, May 2.

Dik Niewold, former chairman of the Woonborg tenants’ organization, symbolically opened the construction site. When construction has progressed, a facade stone with his name will also be placed.

Dik Niewold was chairman of the tenants’ association in Haren from 1974. In 1984 he was asked to become a board member of the Harener Woningbouw Foundation.

In 1991, Haren, Zuidlaren and Anloo merged to form the Drents-Groningen Housing Corporation (DGW). And in 2001, DGW and Roden merged to form Woonborg. Niewold was part of the board until 2015.

“Mr. Niewold has devoted his heart and soul to the interests of tenants for 31 years. By placing a facade stone with his name, we would like to thank him for his great involvement,” says Esther Borstlap, director of Woonborg.

Preparations took time

Woonborg had intensive consultations with the residents of the demolished homes. Demolition/new construction was the corporation’s preference over renovation.

With new construction, Woonborg can realize better homes that meet all quality requirements. The design of the homes is based on the existing architecture in the street. Contractor Construction Company C. Tadema is building the homes.
