Despite measures, animals have been found again with a notorious duo in Limburg | Domestic

--

Dozens of animals were seized this week from a man and a woman in the municipality of Echt-Susteren on the basis of the new Animal Abuse and Neglect Act. The National Animal Welfare Inspection Service (LID) had been on the couple’s radar for some time.

The pair from the Limburg town of Maria Hoop have time and again collected large numbers of animals and then neglected them. Under the new law, the man and woman received a so-called behavioral instruction from the Public Prosecution Service in March.

This means that they are no longer allowed to keep animals until an upcoming lawsuit about the neglect. Nevertheless, the inspectors found several dogs, cats and pigs and dozens of chickens and ornamental and songbirds among them. These animals were seized by order of the judiciary.

A violation of the behavioral instruction carries a maximum penalty of three months in prison or a fine of 10,000 euros. The lawsuit will be heard at the court in Den Bosch on July 29. Until the court’s ruling, the duo is not allowed to keep animals. If the two are caught keeping animals again, they will be taken into custody.

MEMBER and the police previously intervened at this address. In 2021, the inspectorate took away dogs, cats, chickens, horses and ponies, but the stubborn residents subsequently created a new collection, according to the inspectorate.
