Since May 1, 2024, it has been possible to apply for a driver’s license renewal online in the municipality of Tholen. This can be done via the website of the National Road Transport Agency (RDW). The driver’s license can then be collected at the town hall after two working days.
Online applications are only possible in the case of renewing the driving license or expanding categories. Someone who applies for a driving license for the first time must still make an appointment and come to the town hall.
Councilor for services, Peter Hoek is happy with this extra option: “With this option we are taking another step in our digital services. This makes it easier for residents to renew a driver’s license when it suits them. Renewing the driver’s license at the counter with an appointment remains possible.”
Certified photographer
To renew your driver’s license online, a digital passport photo is required, taken by a recognized photographer or photo booth. In the municipality of Tholen, the following photographers/locations are RDW recognized for digital passport photos:
- Primera in Tholen (Shooting range 2)
- Smerdiek drugstore in Sint-Maartensdijk (Markt 55)
- Passport photo booth in the town hall (Hof van Tholen 2)

How does online renewal work?
The application starts with having a photo taken by a photographer or passport photo booth recognized by the RDW. The photographer or passport photo booth sends the photo digitally to the RDW. Residents can then easily and quickly apply via the RDW website using the DigiD app with ID check. After two working days, the driver’s license will be ready for collection at the reception in the town hall. Making an appointment is not necessary.
