At the UWV, 150,000 CVs were illegally viewed and possibly downloaded by a user of the werk.nl website. The benefits agency is considering filing a report due to improper use.
People are registered as job seekers on the werk.nl site. Some of them are also benefit recipients. A user was browsing through resumes on May 4. According to the UWV, CVs on werk.nl have been viewed to a ‘disproportionate extent’.
The organization believes these resumes have also been downloaded. According to the UWV, some of the CVs also contain personal data of job seekers. UWV has made a provisional notification to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
“It is very unfortunate that CVs have probably been viewed and possibly downloaded on such a large scale for improper use,” says Judith Duveen, UWV’s Werkbedrijf director. “Werk.nl is intended to bring people who are looking for work into contact with employers and vice versa. The CVs on the website are not intended for other purposes. We immediately took appropriate measures and will inform the people involved as best as possible about the consequences of this undesirable mass access and possible download for suspected improper use.”
Blocked
After discovering the access, the UWV blocked the user’s account. People whose CV has been viewed and possibly downloaded will be informed by UWV about what information has been viewed, the organization promises. UWV will also inform these people about what they can best do now to minimize the consequences of the inspection and possible download.
Five years ago, around 117,000 CVs were also illegally downloaded from the UWV. This happened from the werk.nl website. It was then feared that the detailed information had ended up in criminal hands.
